Hubbard boy becomes Eagle

Ryan Bosela of Hubbard, a member of Boy Scout Troop 100, had his Eagle Scout court-of-honor ceremony in May at First United Methodist Church in Hubbard, where the troop has its meetings.

Ryan joined Webelos Cub Scout program when he was 9, crossing over into Troop 100 in February 2006. Over the years, he completed all 21 merit badges, including 12 required for Eagle Scout.

He also attended three years of summer camp at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation. He has spent more than 90 hours doing community service. He has served Troop 100 as a chaplain’s aide and librarian.

His Eagle Scout Leadership Project consisted of rebuilding a bridge overpass to the lake at the Hubbard Conservation Club with help from his troop members and local business donations.

For his cycling badge, he had to bicycle 50 miles, which he did mainly on the trails through the Allegheny Forest.

Ryan faced a major challenge on his path to earning his Eagle Scout award. In 2007, just before seventh grade, he required brain surgery to treat epilepsy he had experienced for several years.

He studies architectural drafting and engineering at Trumbull Career & Technical Center, where he will be a senior this fall. He was chosen by his instructor to compete in the 2012 Skills USA Regional Drafting Competition in February, lettered in academics and was nominated for the National Honor Society.

His parents are Jeff and Donna Bosela of Hubbard. He is the grandson of Lillian Flen of Hubbard and the late Peter Flen and the late John and Louise Bosela.
