Chardon victim throws 1st pitch

EASTLAKE, Ohio

A student in Geauga County injured in a school shooting this year that killed three others threw the ceremonial first pitch at a local baseball game.

Nick Walczak threw the first pitch at the Lake County Captains game Friday night from his wheelchair. The ball bounced once and landed in the pitcher’s hand.

Walczak was one of six students shot Feb. 27 at Chardon High School, east of Cleveland. The 18-year-old was paralyzed from the mid-chest down.

Walczak was presented with an $800 check to help with rehabilitation expenses.

Seventeen-year-old T.J. Lane has been indicted in the shootings.
