The newest member of the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees comes with a background in business and community service.
Gov. John Kasich announced Friday that James B. Greene had been appointed to the board for a term through April 30, 2021. He replaced Millicent Counts whose term expired earlier this year.
“I am honored and humbled,” said Greene, a native of Wheeling, W.Va., who has lived in the Mahoning Valley for about 40 years. “I plan to listen, and hopefully I can contribute.”
Greene is the former chief commercial officer of Compco Industries in Youngstown, a leading supplier of metal components to the pressure vessel industry.
During his 26 years at Compco, he was responsible for national sales, marketing and new product development.
Before joining Compco, Greene worked in various management positions in sales and marketing for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp., now part of RG Steel.
His biography, provided by the governor’s office, says Greene is a “strong advocate of education and community service and has played a leadership role in a number of civic and community organizations over the past two decades.”
Greene is the vice chairman of the Youngstown YMCA trustees, a member of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley trustees’ executive committee and previously served as the general chairman of the organization’s annual campaign.
He also served on the Trust Committee of Sister Jerome Corcoran Schools Inc. and is a former president of the YSU Penguin Club.
Greene has a bachelor’s degree in history and economics from Bethany College and served in the United States Army Reserve.
He and his wife, Lynn, are the parents of three grown children and eight grandchildren.
