Historical Society to meet in June

Neighbors | Submitted.Doris Rice, a retired as a library assistant at Poland McKinley & Poland Union libraries, and Mary Ina Jones, a retired principal at Poland Dobbins School, enjoyed the afternoon at the Little Red Schoolhouse browsing through old records and books which are maintained by the Poland Historical Society.

The next meeting of the Poland Historical Society will be June 19 at the Little Red Schoolhouse, 4145 Center Road (Route 224) at the Struthers Road intersection in Poland Township.

The society meets the third Tuesday of each month. The business meetings begin at 7 and the program follows at 7:30. This month’s topic will be “Poland’s 19th Century Homes,” a pictorial history presentation by Dave Smith about many of Poland’s finer old homes. Participation in “Celebrate Poland” on June 29-30 will also be discussed.

Future summer meeting dates are July 17, Aug. 20 and Sept. 18.

There will also be a “traveling exhibit” for the Historical Society located in various banks and businesses in Poland. An exiting historical display can be viewed Walgreen’s in June.

The Little Red Schoolhouse, home of the Poland Historical Society, is open the second Sunday of the month during summer from 1 to 3 p.m. The corresponding dates are July 8 and Aug. 12.
