Compco Industries defeated by Phantom Fireworks
On June 2, Compco Industries suffered its first loss of the season as they were defeated by Phantom Fireworks 12-4 in Boardman Community Baseball, Minor AA. Compco’s offense was led by Tommy Fryda, who had a pair of hits and scored three of Compco’s four runs. Johnny Murphy and A.J. Pecchia also contributed with a hit apiece. Ben Ludban walked and scored.
Compco Industries tops BW3
Compco Industries defeated BW3 15-14 in Boardman Community Baseball, Minor AA on June 3. Compco’s offense was led by Owen Lewis and Jackson Lipka. Lewis had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run. Lipka had two hits and scored twice. Johnny Murphy and Noah Pecchia each added a hit and a run.
Tommy Fryda and Jack McGlone scored three runs apiece. Jaden Rivera and Anthony Butto added two runs apiece. Compco’s pitching was led by Andrew Fryda, Anthony Butto and Owen Lewis.
Boardman runner sets record, places at state
Boardman’s Mark Hadley set his second consecutive school record and earned All-Ohio status by placing sixth in the 3200 at the Division I state meet in Columbus. Hadley was also awarded All-Ohio honors by the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches for his 4.0 grade-point-average. He will next compete at The New Balance Outdoor National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
Compco Industries defeated by Metro Land Title
On June 5, Compco Industries suffered its second loss of the season, losing to Metro Land Title, 14-13. Compco’s offense was led by Johnny Murphy, who tripled, scored two runs and walked twice. Jack McGlone singled and scored. Owen Lewis and Anthony Butto each walked twice and scored twice. Nicholas Ott walked and scored.
Boardman track team members earn league honors
Several members of the Boardman boys track team earned Federal League honors recently, including Mark Hadley, who was named League MVP.
Hadley was named First Team in the 1600 and 3200 events. Nathan Jones made the First Team in the 100.
Brian Bodrick was on the Federal League Second Team in the 200 and joined by teammates Alan Burns (800 and 1600) and Allen Starkey (long jump).
Boardman athletes listed as honorable mention choices are Will Birchfield (11o hurdles), Brian Bodrick (4x100 relay), Turel Thompson (4x100 relay), Starkey (4x100 relay) and Nathan Jones (4x100 relay).
New school records were set this season in the 4x100 relay in a time of 42.14 and in 400 by Dayne Hammond in 49.20. The boys team finished second overall in the Federal League.
Boardman baseball players named to all-league teams
In addition to winning the 2012 Federal League team title, the Boardman baseball team placed several players on the all-league team.
The group was led by Danny Popio, who was named Federal League Player of the Year.
Popio and Troy Parks were named to the First Team and Derek Pasquale and Nico DiIanni were on the Second Team. Honorable mentions went to Anthony Pascella, Cameron Rogers and Phil DiIanni.
Nathan Knaus, Jude Koury, Anthony Pacella, Derek Pasquale and Cameron Rogers were named to the Federal League All-Academic Team.
Compco Industries beats Freedy Construction
On June 6, Compco Industries defeated Freedy Construction, 6-2. Compco’s offense was led by Tommy Fryda, Andrew Fryda and Johnny Murphy.
Murphy had two hits and four RBIs; Tommy Fryda had a double and scored two runs; and Andrew Fryda doubled and scored.
Ben Ludban walked and scored twice. Compco’s pitching was led by Johnny Murphy and Andrew Fryda, who combined to allow only two runs.
Compco Industries tops Home Savings
On June 7, Compco Industries defeated Home Savings, 18-7. Compco’s offense was led by Tommy Fryda, Johnny Murphy, Andrew Fryda, and Jaden Rivera. Tommy Fryda had four hits, three RBIs and three runs. Andrew Fryda had two hits and three RBIs.
Murphy and Rivera had two hits and scored three runs apiece. Anthony Butto and Ben Ludban added one hit and one run apiece. Owen Lewis walked and scored twice, while Jackson Lipka walked and scored three times. Compco’s pitching was led by Andrew Fryda and Jaden Rivera.
Compco wins again in BCB action
Compco Industries defeated Lenscrafters 12-8 May 19 in Boardman Community Baseball Minor AA action. Compco’s offense was led by Tommy Fryda, Andrew Fryda and Johnny Murphy.
Tommy Fryda had two hits, including a triple, and scored three runs. Andrew Fryda and Johnny Murphy added two hits and two runs apiece. A.J. Pecchia, Noah Pecchia, Jaden Rivera and Nicholas Ott all scored runs in Compco’s victory.
Boardman Boosters Host 29th Annual Golf Scramble
The 4 Person-Golf Scramble to benefit the Boardman Boosts will be on Monday at the Tippecanoe Country Club Golf Course. There will be a lunch and buffet dinner as well as prizes to the first and second placers. Registration and lunch begin at 1 p.m. and the shotgun start is at 2 p.m. The cost is $396 per team to compete per $25 per person for dinner only. Make checks payable to: Boardman Booster Club. Vicarel honored as official
John Vicarel of Boardman a long-time OHSAA official, will be honored by the National Federation of High Schools for his service to student athletes and fellow officials.
Vicarel officiates football, softball and basketball. He more than 30 years of service.
He will be recognized during the OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame awards banquet in Columbus today.
Boosters established for Mike Mannozzi
The Michael Mannozzi Olympic Dream Fund, spearheaded by the Agnew and Basista families, has been established for the Olympic hopeful.
