Canfield High School honored its high-achieving seniors May 30 during its annual senior awards assembly in the auditorium. Teachers, faculty and special guests like Doug Sweeney presented the varied plaques, scholarships and medals to the students.
Class of 2012 valedictorians were Kendyl Carlisle, Mark Dalvin, Ishmeet Grewal and Jessica Tseng. Salutatorians were Shane Deiley and Sarah McGraw.
The school also presented awards to outstanding students in individual subject areas, recognizing them for years of hard work. Nathalie McClune won for art, Jayson Szabo won for business, Spencer Saylor won for choral music, Jessica Tseng won for English and Brogan Todd won for family and consumer sciences.
Others earning awards were Nancy Soliman (industrial technology), Alicia Smith (instrumental music), Kendyl Carlisle (science), Kelly Ranttila (social studies), Ishmeet Grewal (math) and Aly Saleh (speech).
“I really wasn’t expecting the award,” said Soliman. “But it was a wonderful feeling to be called up there.”
She has been a member of the Junior Engineering and Technical Society all throughout high school and will be attending the University of Dayton in the fall to study engineering.
