ODNR issues 2 drilling permits in Columbiana County

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued two drilling permits for horizontal wells this month in Columbiana County.

Both permits were issued to Chesapeake Energy LLC.

The first was issued June 6 for Elk Run Township off state Route 154 near Pine Hollow Road north of Elkton.

The other is in Butler Township located north of Tower Road and west of New Garden Road.

It is on an unnamed road southwest of Salem. ODNR issued that permit last Thursday.

Thus far in 2012 there have been 33 drilling permits issued for the Mahoning Valley: 28 in Columbiana County, three in Mahoning County and two in Trumbull County.

At this time, none of the wells is producing, ODNR officials said.

There is one well in Columbiana County in Knox Township that has been fracked, according to ODNR.
