Probe into Struthers crash that killed teen continues

A teenager who was in critical condition after a car accident in Struthers Sunday night showed improvement Tuesday afternoon.

St. Elizabeth Health Center said LaVail LeFlore, 16, of West Chalmers Avenue in Youngstown was in fair condition. He was listed as critical after the accident, which killed another teenager, Tyrell Freeman, 18, of Campbell.

Four other teenagers in a minivan that flipped and rolled down part of State Route 616 at 10:47 p.m. were taken to St. Elizabeth’s. The driver, Robert A. Thompkins of Campbell, was treated and released.

The other three, George LeFlore Jr., 17, of West Chalmers; Gerald L. Ruffin Jr., 21, of West Chalmers; and Aaron M. Page, 18, of Chatham Lane in Youngstown were released Monday.

Funeral arrangements for Freeman are still pending.

Police continue to investigate the accident, and no charges are filed yet against Thompkins.
