College Club hands out thanks and scholarships at luncheon
HERMITAGE, Pa.
At the College Club of Sharon’s annual spring luncheon at the Avalon at Buhl Park, outgoing President Rosann Rookey thanked committee chairwomen for their hard work and earnest efforts over the past year.
As a token of gratitude, each chairwoman received an apron handcrafted by Rookey, who is a quilter.
A long-honored tradition at the College Club’s spring luncheon is the presentation of scholarships. The schools are selected on a rotating basis. Cherie Campbell announced the recipients, who each receive $750. Emily Murphy of Brookfield High School, Youngstown State University; Jalisa Archie of Farrell High School, La Roche College; and Timothy Fraser of Greenville High School, Middlebury College, are all college-bound seniors.
Lizette Olsen spoke about the upcoming visit to the Great Lakes Science Center, and Olivia Lazor introduced Judge Thomas R. Dobson as the featured speaker. Judge Dobson, president judge of Mercer County, has held the position for five months, after the retirement of Judge Francis Fornelli.
He educated the club about the duties and daily routine of a president judge and said that his transition has been smooth.
Rookey then officially turned the meeting over to Antoinette DeAngelis, the incoming president. Other new officers are Wanda Marks, vice president; Dorothy Bieber, secretary; Linda Murray, treasurer; and Michelle O’Malley, financial secretary.
College Club will resume its meetings in October and welcomes new members. Call Marks at 724-962-1699.
