CORTLAND

Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District and Ohio State University Extension Service will have a combined Project Learning Tree and Growing Up WILD workshop for formal and nonformal educators 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 20 at the Trumbull Agriculture and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St. #1.

It is designed for educators who work with children age 3 to 6. Project Learning Tree’s activity guide and music CD offer 130 experiences to engage children in outdoor exploration and play.

Cost is $15, lunch not included. To register, call 330-638-6783.

Library to reopen

AUSTINTOWN

The Austintown public library, 600 S. Raccoon Road, will reopen at 9 a.m. Monday, after being closed for a five-week, $39,908 floor-replacement project.

On its first day open, the Madcap Puppet Theatre will present “Rumpelstiltskin” at 10 a.m. as part of the summer reading program.

Wooden flooring in the entrance and center aisle of the library is being replaced with carpeting and ceramic tile.

During the closed period, the library has extended due dates on items checked out at the Austintown branch that would have been due back during the closed period. Overdue fines for items checked out at Austintown Library have not been accruing during that time.

Book drops outside the branch remain open while it is closed. As always, materials may be checked out or returned at any of the other branches of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

Watershed field school

CORTLAND

The Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District will have a two-day Watershed Field School 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 26 and June 27 for children age 9 to 12 at the Trumbull Agriculture & Family Education Center, 520 West Main Street.

Students will learn about soils, animals, wetlands and forestry and how they are all connected in a watershed. They will visit streams and ponds and make crafts, play games and conduct water-quality testing.

Cost is $25, which covers the cost of the lunch, snacks and lesson materials.

Meetings canceled

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday and the township Board of Zoning Appeals meeting set for Thursday have both been canceled.

The commission’s next meeting will be July 11 and the zoning board will meet July 12.

Flag Day ceremony

Coitsville

There will be a Flag Day ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Coitsville Township Memorial Park, at U.S. Route 422 and McCartney Road and Begala Street, honoring all veterans and safety forces.

Fire at Hubbard home

HUBBARD

Officials are investigating a Hubbard Township fire that broke out just before 6:30 p.m. Monday at 3615 Woodbine Ave. An emergency dispatcher said the homeowner was taken to a local hospital, but no additional information was available Monday night.
