Judge rejects Ohio adoptive dad's attorney bid

TROY, Ohio (AP) — A western Ohio judge has rejected a request for a new attorney from an adoptive father suspected of raping three boys in his care.

Judge Robert Lindeman of Miami County Common Pleas Court said today that the suspect hasn’t shown he is receiving ineffective representation from his attorney that would necessitate a change.

Public defender Stephen King had said in a motion to withdraw that the suspect indicated he doesn’t trust King.

Judge Lindeman also postponed the trial’s June 26 start to give more time to work on the 39-year-old man’s defense. A trial date will be set later.

The suspect also is accused of arranging for two other men to rape a boy.

The Associated Press isn’t naming the father to protect the children’s identities.
