A tire recycling drive will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Covelli Centre. Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling will accept 10 passenger tires free from each participant.

Library meeting

Trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County are expected to choose a new library director to succeed the retiring Carlton Sears in a special meeting at 4 p.m. Monday at the Newport Library, 3730 Market St.

The Friends of the Library also announced an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. June 22 in the Poland Library meeting room in recognition of the 15 years of leadership Sears has given the library system.

Miss Trumbull pageant scheduled

The Miss Trumbull County Fair pageant will be at 7:30 p.m. July 3 at the Historical Stage at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

The competition is open to county girls age 15 to 19. It is based on an application, formal wear, a speech and an on-stage interview. Deadline is today.

Lawrence to sell dog licenses online

Lawrence County, Pa., residents will be able to buy dog licenses online beginning Monday. Dog owners can purchase licenses at www.padoglicense.com by credit card or eChecksNow electronic checks.

There is a $2 fee to use the system.

Residents will be able to print their licenses, and the county will mail dog tags generally within one to two working days, said county Treasurer Richard Rapone.

Stroke Awareness Day planned

A Stroke Awareness Day is planned at 11 a.m. Saturday at Temple Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church, 108 W. Indianola Ave. The church’s health ministry department and the American Heart and Stroke associations are offering the free event.

Annual safety day at Mosquito Lake

The Bazetta Township Police Department and Mosquito Lake Marina will have its 10th annual Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Mosquito Lake State Park.

The event features activities for children and adults, such as a visit from “The Bear,” the tactical vehicle used by the Mahoning Valley Crisis Response Team, and the Howland Fire Department’s Safety Trailer.

Vehicles and personnel from police and fire departments, state and federal agencies and other organizations will be on hand. The Bazetta Police Department will fingerprint children. There will be a canine and Taser demonstration. A medical helicopter will land at noon.

There will be free tote bags for the kids, along with drawings for free bicycles, Cleveland Indians tickets, Mahoning Valley Scrappers tickets, Deer Park tickets and other prizes.
