POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

June 2

Harassment: An East Broadway Avenue woman told police her former boyfriend sent hundreds of annoying text messages, though none contained threats.

Breaking and entering: A 50-inch lawn mower and a trailer were removed from a garage in the 1100 block of South State Street. The loss was estimated at $3,500.

June 3

Menacing: A Taylor Street woman told officers a man threatened to shoot at her residence.

Attempted burglary: Someone trying to enter an apartment in the 200 block of Church Hill Road caused minor damage to the door.

Burglary: To a residence in the 200 block of Church Hill Road by forced entry. Stolen was $120 from a wallet.

Criminal mischief: A Church Hill Road man saw that someone had smeared dog feces next to a door to his home.

Theft: An East Second Street woman reported the theft of a Youngstown State University parking pass from her vehicle.

Criminal mischief: An obscenity was painted on a garage in the 200 block of East Kline Street.

Menacing: A Forsythe Avenue woman reported another woman threatened to damage her vehicle and blow up her home during an argument the accuser had with a neighbor.

Criminal damaging: A Taylor Avenue woman discovered three of her car’s tires had been deliberately cut.

June 4

Attempted burglary: Someone apparently tried to enter a home in the 100 block of Crumlin Avenue through a window before being scared off.

Criminal mischief: A North Avenue woman noticed a derogatory word had been spray-painted on her residence.

Harassment: A Youngstown man said his former wife, of Girard, sent and made more than 100 unwanted text messages and calls.

Vandalism: Someone threw a rock at a vehicle traveling on South Elruth Court and smashed a rear window.

Criminal damaging: A woman reported a rock was tossed at her home in the 200 block of East Second Street, leaving a broken window.

Theft: An East Prospect Street man said he suspected a family member of stealing $160 from him.

June 5

Auto theft: A 2001 Buick Century was stolen in the 30 block of West Second Street.

May 31

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 26-year-old Summer E. Jackson, 219 Park Ave., Youngstown, on a charge of failing to appear in court.

Drugs: Police responded to a report of a possible stolen check at a Belmont Avenue bank, where they took into custody 31-year-old Sunshine E. Roe of Fredonia, Pa., on a charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments. Roe also was wanted on one felony warrant each from Sharpsville, Pa., and Montgomery County, Ohio, charging her with theft and fraud, respectively.

Drugs: A vehicle registration check near Belmont Avenue resulted in 29-year-old Jamaur D. Brown’s arrest on a misdemeanor count of possession of dangerous drugs when, police said, 10 muscle relaxers were in the vehicle. Brown, of 1024 Woodland St., Warren, also was charged with driving under suspension.

Fraud: A Mansell Drive man discovered nearly $9,900 worth of fraudulent purchases had been made with his credit card.

June 1

Arrest: Roberto Yates, 28, of 181 Clarencedale Ave., Youngstown, was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the 400 block of Mansell Drive. Yates was wanted on a Weathersfield Township warrant.

Arrest: Police pulled 25-year-old Jeffrey Hume over on Goldie Road, where they arrested Hume, of 1528 Ohio Ave., Youngstown, on a probation-violation charge and driving under suspension.

Domestic violence: Police charged Whitney A. Jones, 25, of 3023 North Gate Road, Liberty, with the crime after a woman alleged Jones had assaulted her during an argument, causing multiple bruises to both arms.

Arrest: Police picked up Mary E. Kiehl, 27, of 228 Park Ave., East Palestine, in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue on an outstanding warrant.

Weapon: A traffic stop on state Route 193 led to the arrest of 29-year-old Marcus A. Moore, 19 Pinehurst Ave., Youngstown, on two misdemeanor counts of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and one of driving under suspension. A loaded .38-caliber handgun was in the car unsecured, police said.

Arrest: Andrea D. Clark, 27, of 2171 Arms Drive, Girard, was taken into custody on Logan Drive. She was wanted on a warrant from Niles.

June 2

Theft: Roselyn Kelly, 46, of 1465 Townsend Ave., Liberty, was charged after a taxi driver alleged that Kelly refused to pay a $35 fare after having been given a ride to her residence from Warren.

Drugs: Police on Gypsy Lane charged Kevin D. Paden, 42, of 734 Spring St., Niles, with heroin possession; Leroy K. Humble III, 22, of 31 Sheridan Ave., Niles, with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia; and Rachel E. Thomas, 31, of 707 N. St. Clair Ave., Girard, with possession of drug-abuse instruments after saying a bag of suspected heroin and a suspected crack pipe were among contraband found. Humble also was charged with resisting arrest when, authorities said, they had to use a stun gun after he had pushed an officer and tried to flee.

June 3

Arrest: Struthers police handed 60-year-old Paul J. Duritza, 20 Crescent Drive, Struthers, to township authorities. He was wanted on a theft charge.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Hadley Avenue led to 44-year-old William A. Perry’s arrest. Perry, of 968 Winona Drive, Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant.

June 4

Harassment: A man reported a Liberty man sent and made numerous unwanted and threatening text messages and calls to him.

Assault: A Youngstown woman told authorities two women punched, scratched and pulled her hair at a Belmont Avenue restaurant. The accuser sought medical attention for her injuries.

Theft: A Holly Drive man reported his $70 cellphone missing.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 4200 block of Logan Gate Road was found with paint damage to its driver’s side and a slashed rear tire.

Counterfeit: A man tried to use a fake $100 bill to pay for merchandise at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, before fleeing.
