The Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative has chosen Heather McMahon as its executive director.
McMahon, the organization’s managing director, replaces Kirk Noden, who left to become executive director of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, a statewide organizing coalition.
The MVOC is a community organization that partners with about 110 neighborhood groups, faith-based institutions, labor unions and nonprofits in the Mahoning Valley, to address various neighborhood and community issues.
The MVOC recently moved to a new downtown Youngstown office at the Ohio One building on East Boardman Street.
Also, the agency leased space for Phil Kidd, a former MVOC community organizer, to promote Defend Youngstown and to open a downtown gift shop, Youngstown Nation.
The store will allow local artists and community groups to promote and sell Youngstown-themed artwork, apparel and literature.
