Lynn Kirk Elementary School students played games and enjoyed the nice weather during the school’s Field Day May 23.

Students may have noticed much more physical activities this year. According PTA Vice President Kim King, members of the PTA and teachers wanted to encourage more movement.

“It’s a lot more interactive to get more exercise,” King said.

Students participated in games like “Sponge Race” where students ran from one bucket of water soaking a sponge and ran to an empty bucket where they squeezed water trying to fill it up as quickly as possible.

King said Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign was an inspiration behind making the events more physical. Parents were pleased to see their children doing more physical activity.

“Parents are glad we updated all the games,” King said,

Laughter and screams were heard all over the playground and it was apparent that students were also happy with the changes.

“They love it,” King said.

Students also enjoyed healthy refreshments. They drank water and healthy fruit drinks they made themselves.

The annual event took an enormous amount of effort from the PTA and teachers and was an overall success.

“I think it’s wonderful and it’s a great feeling that this day finally came together,” King said.
