Hearing scheduled in $2.3M armored car heist
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The armored car guard accused of killing his partner and stealing more than $2 million in Pittsburgh is due before a judge on homicide and robbery charges.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled this morning for 22-year-old Kenneth Konias Jr. He’s charged in the Feb. 28 killing of fellow Garda Cash Logistics guard Michael Haines.
The Dravosburg man was captured April 24 in Pompano Beach, Fla., nearly two months after authorities say he shot Haines in the head before stealing $2.3 million in cash and abandoning their armored car under a bridge. He was returned to Pittsburgh last month.
At least $1.1 million of the missing money was recovered in Florida, along with nearly $300,000 in Pennsylvania. Investigators say they’re still pursuing the missing money.
