Golf benefit set for cancer patients
The seventh annual Sunshine Benefit Golf Outing to defray the medical costs of a Boardman couple suffering from cancer will be July 21 at Lakeside Golf Course. Proceeds will be donated to Carl and Lucy Seidita, the parents of Kimberly, 17, and Carl Jr., 15. Carl is fighting stage-three inoperative pancreatic cancer while Lucy has oral cancer and requires a feeding tube. The 9 a.m. shotgun start at Lakeside is a three-player scramble that costs $225 per team. Deadline to purchase tickets is June 16. Craven, Eggleston aid Cleveland Warriors
Poland police sergeant Jim Craven and Campbell firefighter Rob Eggleston helped the Cleveland Warriors of the National Public Safety Football League go 3-2 this season.
Craven, a 1993 Wilson High graduate and 2003 YSU graduate, played outside linebacker and H-back. Eggleston, a 2005 Struthers High graduate, was a starter at linebacker and also played defensive end and special teams. A former Marine, he is attending YSU as a special education major.

Former Steelers to attend FCA outing
Former Pittsburgh Steelers Steve Avery, Jeff Hartings and Todd Kalis will attend the Youngstown Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ annual golf scramble on June 18 at the Lake Club.

Bennett recognized
Grove City College senior women’s tennis player Megan Bennett (Poland High) earned Capital One/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division III Academic All-America honors.
Bennett earned second team distinction on the At-Large team.
Bennett earned her second career CoSIDA Academic All-America citation.
Bennett helped the Wolverines earn their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Division III tournament while primarily playing second singles and first doubles.
She teamed with senior Stacy Moon to win the Presidents’ Athletic Conference title at first doubles last October.
Boosters established for Mike Mannozzi
The Michael Mannozzi Olympic Dream Fund, spearheaded by the Agnew and Basista families, has been established for the Olympic hopeful.
The public is invited to join the effort. Sponsorship monies will help offset expenses incurred in Mike’s conditioning, training regimen, and travel for various competitions and additional coaching opportunities.
