The Class of 1964 has organized a reunion for all classmates of the 1960’s of East High School on August 18th from 3-7 p.m. The reunion will be held at St. George Croatian Center on Vestal Road in Youngstown. Business women to meet June 12

The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will hold its June 12 meeting at the Blue Wolf Catering on Lockwood Blvd., in Boardman.

Tri-Gold women to award scholarships

The Tri-Gold Chapter of The America Business Women’s Association will meet June 13 at A La Carte Catering, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. A social at 5:50 will proceed the dinner meeting at 6 p.m.

Passport to fishing set

This program provides fishing skills, techniques and information for beginning anglers to start fishing in their own communities. Preschool Nature Hour set for today

Rain or shine, preschoolers ages 3-5 are invited outdoors for a story and hike along Mill Creek today at 10 a.m. We’ll look for fossils, learn about Ohio’s state fossil — the trilobite, and create your own fossil. Family Garden Fun set

Plan a drop-in visit to the Family Garden on fair weather Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays throughout June to dig, water, pot a plant to take home or read a book. The programs will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 3 p.m. The Family Garden Greeter will tell you about the plants and has free hands-on activities for children to enjoy with their favorite adults. Play strawberry hide and seek

Children ages 3-5 years will discover strawberry plants hiding throughout the Family Garden on June 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. or June 23 from 11 a.m. to noon. In The Time of Dinosaurs set

Fellows Riverside Garden will host In the Time of Dinosaurs on June 23 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. What kinds of plants are growing in the Family Garden that might have been growing in the time of the dinosaurs? Each child age 6 and up will learn about prehistoric plants and be given a ginkgo tree to take home. Call Fellows Riverside Gardens to register. The cost is $10 for residents and $14 for non-residents.

Bonding with babies and books

The Poland library will host Baby Brilliant: Bonding with Babies and Books for babies 6-23 months on June 13, 20 and 27 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Poland library will host a stuffed animal sleepover on June 25 at 6:30 p.m. Join us for stories and fun before leaving your special friend to spend the night in the library. Come back the next morning at 10 a.m. for doughnuts and juice to pick up your friend and find out what fun adventures they had after you left. Wearing your helmet could get you ice cream

The Boardman Optimists, Boardman Dairy Queen and Boardman Police are sponsoring a Bike Helmet Safety program this summer for Valley children. During June, July and August, officers will be handing out “sweet citations” to children seen wearing their bike helmets. These citations can be redeemed for a free small ice cream cone at the Boardman DQ, located at 6120 Market Street.

McGuffey Historical Society hosts special guest

The William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society, based in Boardman, will host McGuffey descendant, Shirley Eckley, as a guest speaker at the society’s meeting today at 1 p.m. at the Kravitz Deli, located in the Poland library, Eckley, a retired Youngstown City Schools’ teacher and resident of Hubbard, will recite several stories, based upon the McGuffey Eclectic Readers’ themes of character, citizenship, conservation and the importance of literacy.

McGuffey is known as “America’s Schoolmaster” and was raised in the Mahoning Valley. The local McGuffey Society is the last existing chapter of the National Federation of McGuffey Societies, which once numbered 100,000 members nationwide.

Dining with Diabetes series set

A three-week Dining with Diabetes series of classes will be held June 6, 13 and 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley, 301 W. Western Reserve Road. The program is sponsored by the Ohio State University Extension, Mahoning County and Shepherd of the Valley.

The class is open to diabetics, their family members and caretakers. Those enrolled will be taught how to prepare meals that are healthy, easy to make and delicious. They also will learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise and how to understand diabetes-related medical tests.

The Extension office reminds the public that diabetes is a serious and costly disease. But research has shown that those who learn to manage blood sugar levels eat healthy and exercise regularly can lower the risk of complications and lead a more productive life.

Recipe books and diabetes brochures will be provided. The cost is $30 and preregistration was required by June 1.

Tesone named to Dean’s List

Nick Tesone was named to the Dean’s List with a 4.0 GPA at the University of Dayton for both the fall and spring semester. A 2011 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, Tesone is majoring in chemical engineering. He is also a member of the UD marching band, pep band and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity.

Home furnishing consignment store opens

Re Arrangements, a home furnishing consignment store, had its grand opening at 15 Stadium Dr. in Boardman. The store officially opened April 1 and specializes in gently-used furniture and home d cor.

The family business is owned by Lexy Milton and Adam Witzeman. The store accepts gently-used furniture and home decor in “like new” condition.

Wound Care center relocates

The St. Elizabeth Boardman Wound Care Center has moved to 7010 South Ave., Suite 6 in Boardman. The new office, at the corner of South Avenue and Trailwood Drive, opened this morning and is convenient to Route 224 and Interstate 680, providing easier access for patients than its former DeBartolo Place office.

St. Elizabeth Wound Care Center specializes in providing comprehensive care for chronic, non-healing wounds using the latest treatments and technologies. Treatment is tailored to each patient’s unique needs and requirements, and complements the care provided by the patient’s primary care physician.

The staff consists of physicians who specialize in the treatment of chronic wounds, nurses specially trained to care for patients with these wounds, and experienced technicians.
