Ex-Pa. school chief gets tougher bail conditions

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — A retired school administrator accused of misusing public funds can remain out of jail until his trial this fall despite prosecutors’ claims he contacted potential government witnesses about the case.

Fred Rosetti spent 12 nights in jail before a federal judge freed him Wednesday after imposing stricter bail conditions.

The former head of the Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit is accused of fraud, theft and money laundering for allegedly misusing public resources and taking a cash payout for vacation, sick and personal days that he used but didn’t report.

The judge agreed with prosecutors who said Rosetti violated the terms of his release by discussing the case with possible witnesses but opted not to keep him behind bars.

Rosetti’s trial is scheduled for Nov. 5.
