Youngstown collecting scrap tires
Youngstown collecting scrap tires
YOUNGSTOWN
The city’s litter control and recycling division is collecting used vehicle tires from Youngstown residents through June 18 at seven sites.
The primary purpose of the project is to remove and recycle illegally-dumped tires, said Jennifer Jones, the program’s coordinator. The city is looking for volunteers to bring tires they find on vacant properties to any of the seven drop-off sites, she said.
There is no fee for bringing the tires to the locations.
This is for city residents only and businesses found to be disposing tires at the sites will be cited, Jones said.
Each site is marked with a large sign designating where the tires should be deposited.
The locations are open around the clock with city employees removing the tires between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays to be recycled.
The sites are:
• The corner of Lansdowne Boulevard and McGuffey Road.
• The corner of McGuffey and Jacobs roads.
• The corner of Crandall and Belmont avenues.
• The parking lot of the former Borts Pool at 260 N. Belle Vista Ave.
• The corner of Hillman Street and Chicago Avenue.
• A parking lot on the corner of Princeton Avenue and Market Street.
• The corner of Dickson Street and South Avenue.
