Wolves Club awards YSU scholarships

YOUNGSTOWN

The Wolves Club of Youngstown recently awarded scholarships to eight local high school students. At the annual scholarship banquet May 18 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel social hall, each recipient received a four-year scholarship to Youngstown State University.

Before dinner, entertainment was provided by Dr. Allan Mosher and his wife, Jennifer, opera singers from the YSU Dana School of Music; and Kayla Wilson, Dana student. Steve Fazzini provided dinner music.

The organization of local Italian-American business and other professionals is dedicated to serving the community by supporting higher education. To provide the scholarships, the group conducts various fundraising events throughout the year. The YSU Foundation matches all contributions made by the group. This year, based on the success of their 2011 efforts, together with YSU, the Wolves awarded $32,000 in scholarship funding.

The 2012 scholarship recipients are Samantha Basista and Kelsey Granchie, Struthers High School; Travis Beatty and Jeffrey Grope, Lowellville High School; Karly Brogley, Canfield High School; Brian Klingensmith, Western Reserve High School; Maria Torres, Campbell Memorial High School; and Natalie Rivello, Poland Seminary High School.

The club also awarded $7,000 to St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, which includes matching funds from Humility of Mary Health Partners Development Foundation. The foundation will award scholarships to local nursing students for the upcoming school year.
