Trailer fire on I-80 closes lanes Sat.

HUBBARD

A fire in a horse trailer shut down westbound Interstate 80 between Liberty and Hubbard townships Saturday.

The road was closed from 5:05 to 5:50 p.m., when one lane was reopened. Both lanes were open at 8:05 p.m., said a dispatcher for Hubbard and Hubbard Township.

Hubbard Township Fire Department reported there were no injuries. The trailer carried only hay, not horses.

Fatal fire in Lisbon appears accidental

LISBON

A Lisbon man died Saturday morning in a fire at his mobile home.

Relatives say Ron Gusman’s body was found near the doorway of the trailer on Pine Hollow Road, according to WFMJ TV-21, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Friends said Gusman loved to fish and hunt, and would do anything to help anyone.

The cause of blaze appears to be accidental, WFMJ reported.

Full-time officer hired in Struthers

STRUTHERS

Struthers has a new full-time police officer.

Jeff Lewis, who worked part-time in Struthers the last four years and also worked as a lieutenant in Milton Township, begins his full-time post Monday. Mayor Terry Stocker swore him in Friday.

Stocker said there is one more patrol officer position to fill.

Lewis said Milton was a beautiful town, but Struthers is “closer to home.”

“My whole family is from here,” he said.

Lewis lives in Poland Township. Before working for Milton and Struthers, he was a Mahoning County deputy sheriff for three years. Before that, he worked for St. Elizabeth Health Center’s police force for six years.

Omarosa to speak here this morning

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown native Omarosa Manigault will speak this morning at a Community Unity Day service this morning at Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Ave.

The Rev. Ms. Manigault, who gained national attention in 2004 as a participant on NBC’s reality-TV series “The Apprentice,” was licensed and ordained as a minister in February 2012 at Weller Street Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

She is West Coast editor of Reality Weekly magazine, and worked in the office of former Vice President Al Gore during the Clinton administration. She is a former member of New Grace Missionary Baptist Church.

Open house today at Sharon gallery

SHARON, pa.

A Little Gallery on the West Hill, 29 Logan Ave., is having an open house for its renovation from 1 to 5 p.m. today. The gallery is a collaboration of more than 70 local artists with a desire to share their artwork with the community.
