Polka dance at Slovene center

Staff report

ENON VALLEY, PA.

The Slovenian Heritage Center at the SNPJ Recreation Center in Lawrence County, Pa., will host a free polka Appreciation Dance on Saturday from 2-8 p.m. with the Eddie Rodick and Joey Tomsick orchestras.

Tomsick and his band were awarded “Musician of the Year” and “Band of the Year” by the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame in 2011.

For nearly 40 years, the Slovenian Heritage Center has been developing a world-class museum at the SNPJ center. The museum has displays of folk attire, handicrafts, art, national heroes, books and more, donated by descendants of Slovenian immigrants and assembled by teams of volunteers.

Visitors from across the United States, Canada and beyond have traveled to the museum since its opening in 1976.

The Saturday dance is the Heritage Center’s way of thanking its donors, volunteers and supporters for making the museum a success.

During the dance, barbecued lamb, pork and chicken dinners will be available. The Slovenian Heritage Center will be open with no admission charge from 1-5 p.m.

The SNPJ center is on Pa. route 108, seven miles west of exit 17 (Mount Jackson) of Interstate 376. The dance will be held in the upper pavilion and picnic grove, rain or shine. Parking is free. Call 724-336-5180 for directions or information.
