Artists from the Mahoning Valley will gather to promote aesthetic culture of the Rust Belt and raise money for Students Motivated by the Arts, during the fifth annual Summer Market.
From noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. next Sunday, about 35 artists representing a spectrum of fine arts will display and sell the fruits of their labor at the B&O Station banquet hall on Mahoning Avenue downtown.
Artists of the Rust Belt is a loose association of artists who want to promote the importance of art in education.
“If anyone is an artist working in the Rust Belt and considers themselves a member, then they are,” said Daniel Horne, event organizer.
Artists can apply to join the event at artistsof-therustbelt.com. Artists are approved by a jury that includes Horne, a sculptor, and other local artists who select according to quality and diversity.
Applicants must pay a $60 fee that benefits SMARTS after the event’s costs are covered. A $1 admission fee also will be collected by SMARTS. Children may enter for free.
The Summer Market will feature Rust Belt beer and food by Pasquale’s Restaurant.
