YSU’s Drew Dosch earns academic honors

Youngstown State third baseman Drew Dosch has been named a Capital One second-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Dosch is just the second YSU baseball player to ever earn Academic All-America honors.
Dosch was one of just two sophomore baseball players in the country to earn Academic All-America honors.
Dosch was named First-Team All-Horizon League this past season while maintaining a 4.0 grade-point average in social studies education.
Joe Koch paces Kent

Joe Koch, a graduate of Austintown Fitch High, scored the winning run to give the Kent State baseball team a 7-6 win over Kentucky in 21 innings in the first round of the NCAA regional tournament.
Koch singled for Kent (42-17) and came around to score the winning run on a triple by Alex Miklos.
Thiel gets Schuller

Cardinal Mooney senior Kevin Schuller will play lacrosse at Thiel College next season.
After two years of playing football at Mooney, Schuller switched to lacrosse where he became defensive captain.

Youngstown Christian graduate Desmond Cloud will attend Muskingum Univ. where he will play football.
Cloud, a 5-10, 300-pound lineman was a four-year letterman and co-captain as a senior.
He was named the most valuable lineman and is a member of the honor roll and dean’s list.
Mitch Weaver to golf at Mount Union
ALLIANCE
Champion High School senior Mitch Weaver will attend the University of Mount Union and play on its golf team.
Weaver was a four-year letterwinner and honor roll student at Champion.
Hazimihalis feature on boxing card tonight

Undefeated Youngstown lightweight Chris Hazimihalis (8-0, 7KOs) will be the feature on the Erie Boxing Classic tonight, beginning at 8 p.m.
The six-bout card will be held at the Avalon Hotel.
Hazimihalis will meet Wilfredo Acuna (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 14-9) in an eight-round match.

There were 14 players named to the United States Hockey League’s season-ending all-star teams.
Among the All-USHL teams are four players that have been selected in the NHL draft, several that are top prospects for the upcoming 2012 NHL draft and 13 players that have committed to NCAA Div. I college programs.

S. African rugby team: Game can be for all

White rugby fans in the Johannesburg area are trying to close the divide that endures 18 years after apartheid’s end.
Panorama sports club members have been working with community development organizations in some of the townships set aside for blacks under apartheid, neighborhoods that remain predominantly black and poor.
