Salem's Shivers, Badger's Krumpe win state titles
Salem junior discus thrower Anthony Shivers won a Division II state title and Badger's Jennilyn Krumpe won the Division III 400-meter dash crown at Saturday's state track and field meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
They were the Mahoning Valley's only state champions through the first three hours of competition.
Maplewood junior Wyatt Hartman finished second in the 1600 in Division III, with he and St. Thomas Aquinas junior Cory Glines both breaking the state record in the event. Glines finished in 4:12.93 while Hartman ran a 4:13.35.
Former McDonald standout Ed Stonestreet held the previous mark of 4:14.20, set in 1999.
