‘Gumby’ voice-over star Dick Beals dies
VISTA, Calif.
The radio and television voice-over star whose work included the animated characters Gumby and Speedy Alka-Seltzer has died in Southern California. Dick Beals was 85.
A friend, Peter Gorman, tells the Los Angeles Times that Beals died in the northern San Diego County community of Vista.
Beals’ was the original voice of the title character on “The Gumby Show” in the late 1950s. He also was the unseen pitchman in more than 3,000 commercials for such products as Oscar Mayer and Campbell’s Soup.
‘Jersey Shore’ cast back for 6th season
SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J.
They’re back.
The cast of MTV’s reality series “Jersey Shore” moved into their summer rental in Seaside Heights to begin taping the sixth season Thursday.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino was first to arrive as he unloaded his Jeep with a GTL license plate that reflects the cast’s “gym, tan, laundry” lifestyle.
He was followed by Deena Nicole Cortese, Vinny Guadagnino, Paul “Pauly D” DelVecchio, Samantha Giancola and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro. By 5:30 p.m., Jenny “JWoww” Farley and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi were in the house.
Polizzi, who is pregnant, has said she’ll live nearby during the season to avoid the alcohol and hot tub.
Chastain to help hand out Tonys
NEW YORK
Jessica Chastain, Nick Jonas, Amanda Seyfried and Jim Parsons are some of the young stars tapped to help host Neil Patrick Harris hand out Tony Awards.
Organizers of the award show unveiled Friday a list of presenters that also includes Paul Rudd, Ellen Barkin, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Candice Bergen, Christopher Plummer, James Marsden, Mandy Patinkin, Sheryl Crow and “The Book of Mormon” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
The Tonys will air live on CBS from the Beacon Theatre in New York on June 10.
