Mass and reception to honor Rev. Kish

The Rev. Carl Kish, pastor of St. Robert Bellarmine Church, will celebrate his golden jubilee of 50 years in the priesthood at a Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday.

A reception will follow until 4 p.m. in the parish hall, 4659 Niles-Cortland Road NE (Route 46).

A Youngstown native, Father Kish was born Sept. 23, 1936, son of the late Charles and Sophie Kish.

He attended St. Matthias School and graduated from Ursuline High School before attending St. Gregory and Mount St. Mary’s of the West Seminary in Cincinnati.

He was ordained by Bishop Emmet M. Walsh on May 26, 1962.

Father Kish began his career as an associate at Holy Family Church in Poland. His next assignment was as an associate from 1965-74 at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.

He then served at Assumption Church in Geneva for a year while also in clinical training at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland. The following year, he continued his clinical training at the University of Virginia.

Returning to Ohio in 1976, he accepted the position as pastor of St. Joseph Church in Newton Falls. He became pastor of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in 1988.

Father Kish is known for his love of sports, his loyalty to the University of Notre Dame and most of all for his love for people.
