On behalf of the General Motors Foundation, the joint leadership team of the Lordstown Complex recently presented a $15,000 Plant City grant to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s Success By 6 program.

This support from the GM Foundation will help expand the Success By 6 program into Niles and LaBrae schools in Trumbull County.

“The GM Foundation is a lifeline to many community efforts, especially in the areas of education, the environment and helping those who need help,” said Bob Hannon, president of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. “We are proud and honored to be a recipient of this grant, and we will work hard and smart to ensure that the money is put to good use in preparing our children for success in the classroom and beyond.”

Based on feedback from Ohio educators, Success By 6 was implemented as a learning experience to better prepare children for kindergarten.

In 2011, about 500 children experienced the program that includes 60 hours of instruction and kindergarten readiness from a certified teacher in the building where the child will attend classes in the fall.
