The members of the Poland Women’s Club opened their hearts and wallets recently to assist families in need at the Girard Emmanuel Care Center.
Members collected and donated baskets of cosmetics, which included lotion, soap and other toiletries, along with a $200 check to the center May 15.
Poland Women’s Club members Ruth Ebert and Pegg Trego personally delivered the donations to Sister Jean Orsuto, who is the Executive Director of the Girard Emmanuel Care Center.
Ebert said members were happy to help.
“We’re glad to share what we have,” Ebert said.
The center offers permanent housing to four women. Orsuto said donations like these are important because some of the women using the facility don’t have adequate financial resources to buy such items on their own.
“We’re always happy to have personal care items,” Orsuto said.
Permanent housing is just the tip of the iceberg of what the Emmanuel Care Center does. The facility also provides financial and housing assistance, food, clothing and school supplies to as many as 400 families in the community.
According to Orsuto, the money donated would be used to assist the families using the facility.
“We also help the mothers buy school pictures for their children because they cannot afford them, and something like that is important,” Orsuto said.
