Pittsburgh police seek man, maybe armed with AK-47
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police were continuing to search for a man they described as a gang member who was reportedly seen with an assault rifle near his mother’s empty home in the city.
Police say several neighbors called to report seeing 18-year-old Montez Dixon running around their Beltzhoover neighborhood with an AK-47 Thursday evening. SWAT officers responded and eventually fired gas shells into the home before entering and finding no one about 10 p.m.
Police say Dixon was supposed to be living in Elwood City, about 35 miles northwest of the city, and checking in with probation officers because of past weapons violations. They now believe he was having his phone calls forwarded or using others to answer the phone when the probation officer called to check on him, because witnesses have spotted him in Pittsburgh in recent weeks.
