The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center opened its doors to Chrys Ritter’s Market Street Elementary kindergarten class May 11 as part of the school’s year-long collaboration with the MCCTC Early Childhood program.
Kindergarten students spent the entire day visiting several programs at MCCTC, according to Adrienne Sabo, MCCTC Media Relations.
Students listened intently as they learned how to make pizza in MCCTC’s Culinary Arts class and got a chance to get their fingerprints taken in MCCTC’s Criminal Justice class.
Ritter appreciated the visit because it broadened the horizons of her kindergarten students.
“They’re seeing things they’d probably never see in a million years here,” Ritter said.
MCCTC Early Childhood students, who chaperoned the kindergarten students throughout the day, also gained a valuable learning experience.
“It’s great for high-schoolers to see what kids are really like. It’s a nice give and take,” Ritter said.
Some students simply enjoyed spending quality time with the kindergarten class.
“It’s just a lot of fun and I love it,” said TiAnna Pondillo, an Austintown senior and MCCTC Early Childhood student.
