Boardman Dairy Queen helped children surprise their moms with a special treat for Mother’s Day during its annual cake decoration event May 12.
Dozens of eager children lined up at Dairy Queen for a chance to decorate their own ice cream cake for their mothers.
“Everybody that does it thinks it’s a good thing,” said Chrissy Smith, manager of Boardman Dairy Queen.
Smith said the annual event, which began six years ago, offers a creative way for families to celebrate the holiday.
Shayla Watkins, mother of Chyann Gruber, said her daughter was happy to participate.
“She was very excited,” Watkins said. According to Watkins, decorating cakes was right up her daughter’s alley.
“She’s a little bit creative and likes to cook,” she explained. “I’m a proud mom.” Children covered their cakes in many designs, including rainbows, hearts and roses and received help from Dairy Queen employees.
