Animal Charity to dedicate benches

Animal Charity Humane Society will dedicate its new “Bench of Giving and Paw Steps of Love” at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Bench of Giving is two concrete benches that have the names of sponsors, including local businesses, engraved on them to show their support for the organization. The Paw Steps are similar and have the names of people in businesses that have donated to Animal Charity to show it takes many people to stop animal cruelty, according to a news release.

Animal Charity is a nonprofit humane agency at 4140 Market St.

Man gets 3 years for drug conspiracy

CLEVELAND

Daniel Infante, 23, of Campbell, has been sentenced to three years’ probation for his role in a drug conspiracy. U.S. District Court Judge Dan Aaron Polster imposed the sentence Thursday upon Infante, who earlier had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin. Infante was one of 25 Youngstown-area residents indicted by a federal grand jury in the case in June 2011. The drug sales occurred on Youngstown’s East Side and in Campbell, authorities said.

Section of road will close Monday

Canfield

Another section of Western Reserve Road will close Monday as the county continues its reconstruction project.

The road will close for 45 days between state Route 46 and Covington Cove as part of Phase 4 of the project.

Traffic will be detoured along U.S. Route 62, Leffingwell Road and state Route 46. Local traffic will be permitted to drive the road.

Mahoning County Planning Commission will have a special board meeting at 10:30 a.m. today in the conference room at 50 Westchester Drive.

Smart Choice food orders being taken

New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., is accepting orders for Smart Choice Food on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon and June 14 from 7 to 8 p.m. Smart Choice boxes will include meat, vegetables, senior meals, and kids meals. There are no income restrictions or guidelines. Preorder and prepay with cash, money orders, or Ohio Direction card. Mail orders will be accepted until June 15, payable by postal, bank money orders, or certified check made out to New Hope United Methodist Church. To receive a reciept, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. Online ordering at smartchoicefood.com closes June 18 at 6 p.m., and a 3 percent handling charge with will be added to all online orders.
