YOUNGSTOWN

Police were kept busy over the past weekend investigating five separate shootings.

No one was killed in any of the incidents involving gunplay, but several people, as well as homes and vehicles, were hit by gunfire.

A 24-year-old Campbell woman was shot in the hand and a 30-year-old male from Cleveland was shot in the arm Sunday while attempting to leave the Eastway Village Housing Development off McGuffey Road on the East Side.

The group of three victims, one female and two males, told police they were leaving the complex at 2 a.m. when a group of people wearing masks began shooting at them. Both people hit by gunfire were treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center and were listed in stable condition.

Police noted the truck the three were driving had multiple bullet holes, shattered glass, three flat tires and blood on the inside. Police went to the area and recovered 43 spent shell casings, three spent bullets and one live round.

A 20-year-old city man showed up Friday at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg, but told police he has no idea who shot him or when the shooting took place.

The victim told police he was at a South Side home on Chicago Avenue dancing, then noticed he had been shot when he left the home to walk to a nearby store. He was listed in stable condition.

An 18-year-old city man is recovering in St. Elizabeth Health Center from gunshot wounds to the back in an apparent drive-by shooting Saturday on the city’s North Side.

The victim told police he was visiting a person in a house in the 500 block of Francisca Avenue when he heard a series of gunshots and ran inside. The man hid in the basement until he felt it was safe to come out, then called police.

Police observed numerous wounds to the man’s back believed to have been caused by bird shot or a fragmented bullet.

A car in the home’s driveway had several bullet holes.

A 42-year-old city woman was treated Sunday at St. Elizabeth for a gunshot wound to the hand.

The woman told police she was walking along Oak Street near Medina Avenue on the East Side at 5:43 p.m. when a man pulled alongside her in a dark gray car and accused her of breaking into his house. The man then pulled out a gun and shot her in the hand, the woman said.

The woman said she does not know the man who made the accusation then shot her.

A Chalmers Avenue couple told police their South Side home and car were hit by gunfire Saturday. The couple said they were awakened by a series of gunshots at 2:30 a.m.

They found bullet holes in the home’s exterior and in a car parked in the driveway.
