Police: Erie, Pa. man shot taking lock off stolen gun
ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Erie police charged a man with weapons and receiving stolen property charges after they say he shot himself in the arm while trying to remove a trigger lock from a stolen gun.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for 44-year-old Brian J. Kelly, who was found with the stolen gun in a vehicle that had also been reported stolen when officers responded to the shooting about 12:30 a.m. Monday.
The Erie Times-News reports today that police found the gun and vehicle and Kelly in a parking lot, then followed a blood trail to a nearby home where police determined Kelly had shot himself moments before while using a screwdriver to try to remove the trigger lock.
Kelly is also charged with reckless endangerment because two children were home when he shot himself in the bicep.
