Ohio board to discuss Holocaust memorial planning

COLUMBUS (AP) — The agency that oversees the grounds at the Ohio Statehouse is expected today to take the first step toward selecting an artist to design a Holocaust memorial at the Statehouse.

The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board is working with the Ohio Arts Council to determine the memorial’s location and design.

They are scheduled to meet this afternoon to continue planning for the memorial and pick a group of people charged with naming an artist.

Gov. John Kasich has said he wants construction to be completed by 2013.

The state is funding preliminary site work, with private money paying for the rest.

Some have questioned if such a memorial would fit in at the Civil War-era Statehouse.
