Columbus man killed in single-car accident on I-270

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A 47-year-old Columbus man has been killed in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 270 on the city’s southwest side.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to I-270 south of Georgesville Road at 4:30 p.m. Monday after a construction worker saw a 2005 Acura in a ditch just west of a construction zone.

The driver, Alan Popowski, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Jackson Township medic.

The sheriff’s office says Popowski was driving southbound on I-270 when his car went off the right side of the road, across a median into road construction, and down an embankment.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered a factor in the accident.
