Ally Deemer and Kristyn Svetlak combined on a one-hitter as Poland captured the 13-14 Ohio Junior Softball state title with a 12-0 win over Conneaut on Sunday.

Aleah Hughes belted a two-run homer and Megan Marscio socked a two-run double to highlight a five-run second inning that broke the game open.

Deemer worked the first two innings and allowed one hit and struck out four. Svetlak struck out five in three innings work. The game was shortened due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Claire Testa gave Poland a 2-0 lead in the first inning when her pop fly dropped in short left field, scoring Abby Masluk and Deemer, who both singled.

Poland advances to the Junior Softball Regional Tournament Aug. 4-8 at Akron’s Firestone Park for the third year in a row.

The team also consists of Maddie Rowe, Kat Wilson, Arlia Duarte, Jenna Schettler and Cara Kalouris. They’re managed by Chuck Masluk, assisted by Dave Marsico and Rich Deemer.
