Jhonny Peralta hit two homers, Doug Fister pitched eight innings for the Tigers to avoid the sweep. Fister (5-7) won for the fourth time in five starts, allowing one run and seven hits, all singles. Jose Valverde closed for his 20th save in 24 chances.

Orioles 6, Athletics 1

BALTIMORE

Wei-Yin Chen struck out a career-high 12, Matt Wieters hit a three-run homer and the Orioles avoided the sweep. Omar Quintanilla had three hits, including a homer.

Mariners 7, Royals 6

SEATTLE

Felix Hernandez shook off a line drive to his left wrist and threw seven strong innings, and the Mariners overcame bullpen problems to sweep Kansas City.

Rays 2, Angels 0

ANAHEIM, CALIF.

Zack Greinke’s first pitch in a Los Angeles Angels uniform was lined to left field for a single by Desmond Jennings, who never had faced him in a regular-season game. Greinke shrugged it off and pitched his usual game, although his run support was nonexistent.Greinke (0-1) allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings and struck out eight.

Rangers 2, White Sox 0

ARLINGTON, TEXAS

Scott Feldman tied a career high by pitching eight shutout innings in helping the Rangers snap a two-game skid. David Murphy had three hits, including a double.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Marlins 5, Padres 4, 10 innings

MIAMI

Josh Johnson tied a career high with six walks, but the Marlins rallied from a two-run deficit. He allowed two runs — one earned — and two hits in five innings with four strikeouts. Justin Ruggiano hit a game-ending single off Brad Brach (0-2) after Jose Reyes doubled leading off and Carlos Lee was intentionally walked.

Reds 7, Rockies 2

DENVER

The Reds posted their 10th straight win with Mat Latos pitching eight strong innings. Latos (9-3) allowed four hits and struck out eight. Jay Bruce homered.

Dodgers 4, Giants 0

SAN FRANCISCO

Clayton Kershaw pitched a five-hitter for his second shutout of the season. Luis Cruz drove in two runs, and Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, James Loney and Mark Ellis had two hits apiece.

Nationals 11, Brewers 10,

MILWAUKEE

Michael Morse hit a tying, two-run homer in the ninth inning, then delivered a two-run double in the 11th for Washington. The Brewers have lost nine of 10.

Braves 6, Phillies 2

ATLANTA

Jason Heyward and Chipper Jones homered off Roy Halladay, and the Atlanta Braves completed a three-game sweep of the Phillies. Tim Hudson (10-4) gave up two runs and seven hits.

Mets 5, Diamondbacks 1

PHOENIX

R.A. Dickey rebounded from his first loss in three months to gain his National League-leading 14th win. Dickey (14-2) allowed an unearned run and four hits in seven innings, striking out eight, walking three and hitting a batter.

Cubs 4, Cardinals 2, 10 innings

CHICAGO

Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning that lifted the Cubs. Starlin Castro led off the 10th with a single against Trevor Rosenthal (0-1) and Rizzo followed with his seventh homer.

James Russell (5-0) worked an inning for the win. The Cubs are 12-3 in their last 15 home games.
