SENIOR SIDELIGHTS


Austintown Senior Center, 100 Westchester Drive, has planned the following: Monday, open exercise at 9 a.m., painting class ($5) at 9:30, bingo at 10 and computer practice at noon; Tuesday, “Vets Helping Vets” and bingo at 10 a.m., bridge club at 10:30, $3 pizza and cards at noon, Advisory Council meeting at 1:30 p.m. and intermediate computer class at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, open exercise at 9 a.m., bingo at 10, $3 lunch surprise at noon followed by a movie, “Cool Runnings,” at 1 p.m.; Thursday, yoga ($2) and open exercise at 9:30 a.m., bingo at 10, beginning crochet at 11:30 and Bible study at noon; and Friday, Wii practice at 9 a.m., bingo and discussion group at 10, intermediate yoga/tai chi at 10:30, Wii bowling tournament at 11:30, beginner computer at noon and trip to Canfield Dog Show, Dog Days and Dinner at 5 p.m. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Whispering Oaks independent senior community, 260 Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage, Pa., is hosting free events for Hermitage-area seniors in August. The events follow:

Aug. 4, Bingo Beach Bash with prizes, 10:30 a.m.

Aug. 5, chef-prepared lunch followed by live music from Tammy O’Marrie, 12:30 p.m.

Aug. 7, “Health Care in the Home: What You Need to Know” seminar, 7 p.m.

Aug. 8, Antique car show with vintage vehicles from as far back as 1900, 7 p.m.

Aug. 10, “Fall Prevention” seminar, 10:30 a.m.

Aug. 18, Veterans educational seminar on available benefits, 11 a.m.

Aug. 19, Model airplane demonstration with Skylarks of Sharon, 2:30 p.m.

Aug. 21, “Understanding Independent Living” seminar, 7 p.m.

Aug. 25, Cooking demonstration with Chef Steve, 5:30 p.m.
