Canned-food drive at Beaver Twp. Park

During August, the Beaver Township Park Board is asking residents attending the weekly concerts in Woodworth Park, East Western Reserve Road, to help with its canned-food drive.

Items may be dropped off at the park during the concerts that take place each Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The concert series, which kicked off in June, is in its 11th year. Performances for the remainder of the series are the Classic Cruisers on Wednesday, A.L.B., a classic rock band, Aug. 8; Vegas on Aug. 15; and Loren Coler on Aug. 22.

Many of the performances are presented in cooperation with the American Federation of Musicians Local 86-242.

In July, the park board collected school supplies to help local students and teachers.

“This is something we do to help the community and to give residents an opportunity to do something as well,” explained Scott Conway, Beaver Township park administrator. “It’s a nice opportunity to come out, enjoy the park and see your neighbors, and [it’s] a good opportunity to collect food to help those in the community who are in need.”

Each concert typically attracts at least 150 people. The concert series is made possible through the contributions and sponsorships of area businesses, groups, organizations and individuals, he noted.

Because seating is limited and the concerts are outdoors, attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs or blankets and to dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather.
