Firefighters were called to 21 N. Bon Air Ave. on the city’s West Side about 4 a.m. Thursday for a blaze believed to have been deliberately set.

Officials said it appeared the fire was started near the back door and extended into the house and second floor, mostly on the exterior. Neighbors said the house had been vacant for about two months.

The property damage was estimated at about $20,000, and a demolition request has been filed for the property, according to reports.

Fight at meeting

Township police were called when a Canfield condo association meeting at St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Drive, got physical.

A 50-year-old man told officers he was choked and smacked in the face by someone in the association after a discussion of the budget Wednesday evening, and two witnesses supported the man’s account, police said.

The man said he wished to pursue assault charges against his assailant, according to records.

Altercation at bar

A 28-year-old Boardman man lost a tooth after he was punched in the face with a billiard ball at a township bar, police said.

The man was at Quench, 8414 Market St., late Wednesday night, with a friend and the two had teamed up to play pool against two men unknown to them, one of whom reportedly became enraged after losing and picked up a billiard ball and punched him in the face, according to reports.

Police said the man was knocked unconscious, in addition to his dental injury and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman. Police have a suspect but did not release a name Thursday.

Man shot in leg

YOUNGSTOWN

Officers were called to ValleyCare Northside Medical Center about 2:30 a.m. Thursday after a 50-year-old city man came in with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police questioned the man who said he was driving in the area of Albert Street and McGuffey Road on the city’s East Side about an hour before when he gave a woman a ride in his car, reports stated. While at a stop light, a man opened the car door and shot him in his right leg before fleeing, police said.
