The Austintown library turned day into night during its summer reading program titled “Gotta Move: Noise in the Night” July 18.

“Learning is important at any age. We’re trying to engage all of their senses. The summer reading program’s theme is ‘Dream Big’ and it lends to the nighttime theme as well. We choose animals because it’s fun and we have props. Kids like animals and it seems to grab their attention,” said Austintown librarian Hayley McEwing.

Participants were excited to touch the animal props as they learned about creatures like owls and bats during the event. They also spent some time with number and letter identification. Librarians led songs about the moon as children sang along and danced with the music.

“We always get a good turnout for ‘Gotta Move.’ People like that it can be active. Just having fun together is the most important thing,” McEwing said.

Parents with children of any age were thrilled to bring their children, who were excited to participate and mingle with other kids their age. Anna Stanberry’s 1-year-old daughter, Alayna Valley, enjoyed every moment of the program.

“I like the library programs here and she loves it. I like that she can get interaction with other babies and it gets her used to being in the library. She loves to sing along and clap,” Stanberry said.
