The Fitch High School cafeteria will never look the same, thanks to help from Boardman Home Depot, who made renovations to the building July 12.

Remodeling efforts came from more than 20 Home Depot employees and volunteers from the surrounding communities, who all chipped in to assist.

Home Depot employees were more than happy to extend their time and expertise to the project.

“I’m always looking forward to giving back to the community that’s helped us so much. I am just thrilled that I work for a job that actually encourages it, and it’s good to know my associates feel the same way as I do about the community,” said Boardman Store Manager Buddy Colley.

Warm-toned colors were used to create a coffee shop appeal for students. After the lunch menu was dramatically altered to meet guidelines set by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, Brooks wanted to offer students a new environment where they could feel comfortable.

“I’m just really excited about it. We’re trying to give it more of a coffee house open feel. It’s really going to affect dining experience. We just want it to be a source of community. We want it to nurture healthy eating,” Brooks said.

Some students also participated and said they were eager to see the cafeteria when it was completed.

“I think it fits. We get a new lunch menu and a new feel with these colors. I can’t wait to see. I think it’s going to look awesome, said Fitch sophomore Elysabethe O’Hara.
