Youngstown schools seeking members for Rayen band
Staff report
Youngstown
Rayen Stadium opens Aug. 25, and student and alumni band members can be part of the festivities.
For halftime entertainment, the city school district is forming the band to perform at the inaugural game in the newly renovated stadium.
Former Youngstown City Schools band members who graduated within the past eight years, and who can still play an instrument, are invited to participate. Rehearsals will be from 9 a.m. to noon today and weekdays Aug. 6 through Aug. 24 at East High School.
Alternative rehearsals will take place evenings for those who work during the day. Instruments and uniforms will be provided by the district. Interested alumni should call Natalie Lopez at 330-744-6985.
Edward Arrington, former Rayen School and Massillon High School band director, will design the show and direct the band. He will coordinate all rehearsals, assisted by Daniel Gall, director at Chaney Visual and Performing Arts.
The Rayen Stadium ribbon-cutting ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 25, followed by the East vs. Ursuline game at 2 p.m. The band show will participate at both events and will include all current student band members from East, Chaney VPA and P. Ross Berry as well as alumni.
