Police officers fatally shoot suspect in Akron
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — City police officers fatally shot a suspect they say drew a weapon and refused to drop it.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that it happened just after 7 a.m. today.
Police Capt. Daniel Zampelli told the newspaper the suspect initially fled from officers who tried to pull him over. He led police on a chase before stopping his car and getting out.
Zampelli said the suspect drew a weapon. When he didn’t drop it as commanded, two officers fired an unknown number of shots.
The suspect died later at a hospital. His name has not been released. The officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is routine after they are involved in a shooting.
