COLUMBIANA
On Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight, the Kooltime Kruisers will host a Midnight Car Cruise to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley at Pizza Hut in the Oakmont Plaza in Columbiana, rain or shine.
The entry fee for cars is $5 or five nonperishable food items for Second Harvest. Admission is free to the public, but spectators are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items.
Sponsors of the event are Brittain Chevrolet, Stadium GM, Columbiana Chrysler, and #1 Performance Center, a division of Columbiana Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick.
Special guests are the Ohio State Cars, A-team van, Bumble bee Transformer, The Bandit, Knight Rider and the 2005 General Lee Drifting movie car. For information, call Steve Zimmerman at 330-424-9503.

Make-A-Wish race
CANFIELD
Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center, led by Dr. Ted Suzelis, is teaming with Mahoning Valley businesses to sponsor the inaugural charity 5K Run/2-Mile Walk on Aug. 11 to benefit Make- A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Make-A-Wish grants wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Registration for the event, at the Mill Creek Metroparks Bikeway Kirk Road Trailhead at 6700 Kirk Road begins at 7:30 a.m., and the first event starts at 8:30 a.m.
The pre-registration fee for the 5K and 2-mile walk is $15 and includes a race T-shirt. Race-day registration is $20 (T-shirt not guaranteed). The Kids’ Fun Run for children age 4 through 13 is free or $10 to receive a T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runner in the 5K event, and there will be a Chinese auction.

Understanding memory loss

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter is offering a five-session Living with Alzheimer’s program once a month beginning Aug. 20 at the Leetonia Public Library, 181 Walnut St.
The program is designed to address the needs of people in the early stages of memory loss and their care partners.
Topics include understanding Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss, effective communication and telling others about the diagnosis, coping with changes and making health and legal decisions, daily strategies and safety issues, and resources for individuals with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease.”

Dr. Louito C. Edje of Toledo will receive the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians’ (OAFP) 2012 Family Physician of the Year Award at the organization’s Awards Dinner on Aug. 4. Also, Dr. W. Fred Miser of Powell will be presented with the OAFP Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award.
