Scrappers rip Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT, PA.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers plated runs in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings in their 9-3 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters on Tuesday, sweeping the two-game series.

Charlie Valerio singled home the game’s first run and he added another hit in the fourth inning.

Mahoning Valley (19-17) scored three runs in the third paced by a 2-run home run by Joey Wendle. It scored Tyler Naquin. The Indians first-round draft pick doubled in a run to start the inning.

The Scrappers followed that with four runs in the fourth. Aaron Siliga led off with a double and scored on Erik Gonzalez’s single to right field. Hunter Jones brought him in with a hit before Jairo Kelly’s single up the middle brought in two runs.

Every hitter in the Scrappers lineup had a hit.

Luis Morel earned his second win on the mound with a five-inning, four strikeout performance. Morel surrendered just one earned run on four hits and one walk.

Josh Martin pitched three innings of one-hit relief and struck out three batters.

For Williamsport, starter Nicholas Hanson dropped to 1-3 on the year and last just three innings. He was pulled after giving up seven runs on nine hits.

Logan Moore went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for the Crosscutters (12-24).
