Mary Kennedy’s son, 18, enters NY estate dispute

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — The 18-year-old son of Mary and Robert Kennedy Jr. is asking to be named administrator of his mother’s estate.

Conor Kennedy appeared today in Surrogate’s Court in White Plains, N.Y.

His lawyer says Conor Kennedy turned 18 on Tuesday and therefore is qualified to be administrator of Mary Kennedy’s estate. She hanged herself in May.

Mary Kennedy’s divorce lawyers have objected to the possibility of her estranged husband, Robert Kennedy, being named administrator. They want a public administrator appointed instead. They also say they’re owed more than $278,000.

Lawyers for Robert Kennedy and the public administrator also appeared in court. The parties were sent into a closed-door conference.

Mary Kennedy’s sister, Martha Richardson, says she also is thinking about applying to be administrator.
